More Computer Woes [Constant DCing]

My computer is constantly losing it's connection for apparently no reason at all at random times. Sometimes it'll be fine for days at a time, sometimes just seconds and then just drop the line. Once it drops the connection it bitches that it can't find a dial-tone, sometimes it can't find it for minutes, sometimes seconds.

This problem has happened with two of my modems now, I started with a Speedtouch 330 USB one that my ISP sent me when I joined them. I read a couple reviews complaining about the same problem as me, so I went out and bought a Zoom PCI ADSL modem, but the problem continues.

I've had BT out here inspecting the phone line, changed filters twice, my ISP say they've done line tests and found no faults, the most recent reply from them said "I ran a line test on the installation telephone number [My phone number] and it doesn't show that the connection is getting dropped frequently."

After trying two modems I think the problem must be with the computer somehow, because I don't remember my old Dell comp ever dropping the line and I was using it with the Speedtouch 330 modem for about 3 weeks before I built this new one.

Any ideas?

What else do you have running on your USB? and in what layout/configuration?

I've had incidents in the past where USB devices have conflicted. (My old palmtop used to drive my USB mouse crazy when they were both connected together)

It's not a USB problem, because it's happeneing with a PCI modem too.

I've just tried a BIOS Flash and after the started it told me it dected new hardware, now it's looking for software for "NVIDIA nForce 4 ADMA Controller", I set the wizard thing going and it says it needs "nvatabus.sys".

Try uninstalling then reinstalling the nVidia chipset problems, I had the same issue and reinstalling the nVidia network drivers fixed it.

Sidenote: when installing, since it's in a pack(nVidia.com to DL latest version), do NOT install the IDE drivers.

That didn't do it, it's just started dropping the line again.

You aren't running the nVidia firewall are you?
When I ran it on my old system I had no end of problems until I uninstalled it.

BTW, what's your OS?

No, made sure not to say yes to installing the firewall. My OS is XP sp2.
