I will 1st throw out 2 caveats: the CD / DVD drive bugged out on me. This is not the reason I'm getting rid of it, although either I mail it as credit towards a new machine (www.widowpc.com) or I shop it here. Also, it's only got 40-gig 5400 rpm HD. I know that's pitiful but I only had apps and games, I have a beefy external drive that I put shit on.
2nd, there's a white spot on the left palm rest, to the extreme left of the mouse pad. That's from heat, before I used an external keyboard. THAT is purely cosmetic.
3rd -- however, this is a GOOD thing -- is that I have all the installed software on disc (to include a full version of Windows XP Home) that I will ship to any potential buyer.
The before shipping and taxes machine cost me $2800. My asking price is $1200-$1500. WidowPC claims their laptops are easy to upgrade and meant to be taken apart with ease. Whether this is true or not I never personally found out, but for what it's worth, this particular laptop IIRC has space for a 2nd HD, which I opted not to get because of lack of funds at the time of purchase.
Finally, what IS under the hood: 3.0 ghz Pentium 4, 1 gig DDR2 ram, soundcard that supports up to 7.1 speakers, and a nVidia 7800 GTX Go video card, 256mb video memory. Got a built in webcame (top center of) 17 inch, 1920x1200 screen. Battery life will only really be 50-70 minutes. Software includes Nero, the video cam driver, device user's manual, InterVideo WinDVD5wireless networking solution. Fullsized keyboard, although like I said, it's a palm burner. Speakers with small subwoofer, DVI-Out, 4 USB ports, DATV jack, and S-Video-In Jack. And apparently, although mine is black, a secondary optical drive slot. Has full instruction manual.
edit: I have PayPal, and took Qmark out of thread subject.
edit 2: I did NOT purchase the TV tuner when I got it, so you'll still need software or hardware to put TV and console games on the lovely screen. I purchased the computer in November 2005 before my last (alleged, and ultimately cancelled) deployment and I'm looking now for a faster, lighter, cooler machine, which I've found. It's still under the 1-year-warranty for that matter, but it'll be under my name or however that'll work out...
Gaming laptop / desktop replacement for sale
Moderator: Thanas
It's a decent enough computer I guess, but its processor sucks (those termal problems could be related to the processor if it was a desktop model stuffed in the laptop). Unfortunatly, for the money you are asking you can get something new with a better processor and the rest as good or better except the graphics card (usualy you can get a x1600 or a 7600 in that range).
Not that I would be interested either way, seeing that shipping it over here would probably be half the price or something (I payed like 125$ for shipping of a crappy power brick for a older laptop from the US because the idiots decided to make the conector some sort of flimsy propriatery bullshit - the reason for needing a new power brick - and a compatible power brick was available only from 2 places in the US).

Yeah, unfortunately, a gaming laptop is something only suited to a very small number of people -- me having numerous change of stations, potential deployments and trips to the field, I obviously fit the bill. It also doesn't help that the price for such a machine will never compare to a good desktopmmar wrote:It's a decent enough computer I guess, but its processor sucks (those termal problems could be related to the processor if it was a desktop model stuffed in the laptop). Mind you that the 7800gtx go is vastly superior gpu to the x1600 and gf7600go, which fall under the budget gamer category, whereas the 7800gtx go is still very much a high end gpu.mmar wrote:It's a decent enough computer I guess, but its processor sucks (those termal problems could be related to the processor if it was a desktop model stuffed in the laptop). You've got a solid gaming box, but since Clevo started making laptops with modern mobile GPUs AND pentium M processors there is just no reason to get one of those big clunkers. I mean, hell, the SLI 7900gtx go laptops are smaller than what you have, if I recall correctly; crazy stuff.
You've got a solid price for the machine, for $2000 you can get a laptop with a Core Duo and a mobile 7900gtx @ 8 or 9 pounds that is a full gaming machine, but for $1200 you get something with a far inferior GPU, though a better processor (both speed and heat/power). A quick check on ebay shows that most stuff in the $1200 price zone is still using radeon 9700s, or 6800go.
Of course, and correct me if I'm wrong, but the thing is also like 15 pounds before the power cord, a real monster of a thing
It looks a little like this, right?
There's a white blemish on the top, directly adjacent to the memory card readers -- but, yes. Yes too to the fact that it's a monster. P4 and monstrous video card mean also that power requirements are high and the whole ginormosity of it adds up to ... more than 10 lbs. About 12 I think.InnocentBystander wrote:Mind you that the 7800gtx go is vastly superior gpu to the x1600 and gf7600go, which fall under the budget gamer category, whereas the 7800gtx go is still very much a high end gpu.mmar wrote:It's a decent enough computer I guess, but its processor sucks (those termal problems could be related to the processor if it was a desktop model stuffed in the laptop). Quoting a long post with a large pictures makes my Lord cry in pain.
With that said, have you tried Craiglists to shop for buyers?

I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."
