Transformers RPG: anyone interested?

Post by Acidburns »

I was browsing through my Silhouette rulebook, and while reading the transforming vehicles section I was reminded of the Transformers movie I had watched that morning. The rules seem perfect. I thought that I might sound out the idea here and see if there was any interest.

I'd imagine that the players would take the role of a group of Autobots. If there was enough interest another group could play as Decepticon advesaries. Human characters, civilian or miltary would be quite possible also. Hell, maybe a few units from our local CVBG could give the Autobots some support. Most RP would be resolved STGod style posting. The main battle(s) would be resolved with a turn based hex system. It would take very little time for each player to make their turn, so depending on how many players there are a battle could be over in a week or so perhaps. I'd handle most of the number crunching, (players would be givin a brief overview of the rules so they know how to move, what actions are possible etc).

While I know many such projects don't take off, I think this one is different enough from the norm that it may work.

I suppose the next logical question is: What Universe?

G1(with or without Beast Wars)(Cartoon, Marvel, or Dreamwave)? RiD? Unicron Trilogy(Armada to Cybertron)? Universe? Vs. GIJOE?

A mix of the above?

Universe allows for characters from multiple timelines to be involved, so I would say it is the best choice for setting.

I'm not familiar with the Sillouette system, though. Could you give some details about it?

Silhouette is an RPG that emphasizes fast play and a range of play styles from gritty to cinematic. Most of the settings that use the system involve Mecha in some way, and uses them well. It can easily change between tactical scale combat and personal scale combat.

Skill rolls use xD6, where x is equal to your skill level (similar to WEG D6). Pick the highest number out of the numbers rolled, add your attribute and modifiers, that's your result.

Combat is relatively fast-paced, and usually fairly lethal.
