Who here is actually going to be jumping into Vista?

Post by Uraniun235 »

I've seen "watch out these cards are not DX10, Vista's coming!" stated in some form or another around here lately, and I have to wonder... who here is planning on buying Vista when it comes out? I just went to XP a few months ago, and I don't foresee another OS change in my future for the next couple of years... certainly not before I start looking at upgrading my 7800GT vid card.

I will jump right into vista... in December 2007 when I do my next big upgrade.

I'll jump into Vista when I start seeing games on the store shelves that I really want to play and which say "Windows Vista required" on the side-panel. I really don't see what huge benefit I'm supposed to gain from this upgrade otherwise.

I'll need to get it straight away so I know how to use it to help customers at work. Plus as an OEM partner I'll be getting it free from Microsoft anyway :P

All I can say is, thank God for Mac OS X. It's nice to have relatively frequent upgrades that I can actually look forward to.

I might do the same, I never bothered checking the college prices for Windows.

Is there a limit to how many you can buy? I'd probably dual boot a couple computers.

I'd never, EVER pay full price (or even half price) for Vista (I'm talking about Ultimate, because Basic is absolutely worthless).

A Mac with Leopard and Vista dual booted next year would be nice.

I will be buying a new computer when vista is released.

And yes it will be a DELL.

Anyone that argues that dell is crap has time to tinker with settings tune this and that and so on.

I work with fucking computers and the last thing I want to do at home is to work more with them, I want stuff that works out of the box, nothing more nothing less.

I seriously doubt it, at least not for a long time. By which point it should be obvious whether MS are continuing there practices of waiting till every user is shouting at them before fixing problems, amung others.

I am sure that the license for the product your university supplies will expire in a year. I know that when the university that I once attended gave out full versions of software, the license expired in a year.

I will not be getting Vista anytime soon because my laptop will not run it. And I do not have the funds to buy a new computer.

Since it will be free to me (MSDNAA) I'll probably get it when it becomes available. In recent years I've become less and less of a tinkerer with machines, but XP is honestly starting to feel a little stale. Even without all the changes in functionality, at this point I'd get it simply to be able to stare at something else then XP's UI (and no, hackish stuff like Windows Blinds don't count).

In the future, after I graduate and have a job, maybe then I'll get a shiny new computer with vista. At the moment, no chance.

When I have the money for a DX10 system. Then and only then will I make the jump. Or, alternately, if Live Anywhere supported games are compelling enough.

I'll probably grab Vista either through MSDNAA or (hopefully) my Action Pack subscription

I might, MIGHT have grabbed it if WinFS were going to be included. You know, the only feature that's the slightest bit meaningful in the entire OS? The one they axed early in development? :P

As for Dells, tell that to the customer I just built a new system for...because her brand new Dell died on her, and it was out of its 90-day warranty. NOT a low-end system, either.

My new Dell XPS is coming with a 1 year warranty.. which seems to be the standard at least in the UK.

I refuse to upgrade to any operating system until there's been at least two service packs/revisions, so. . .no. Especially since I only really started using Windows 2k Pro and XP Pro in the last year.

I believe that 1 year is the minimum that's required by EU law for most computers. If it weren't the case, I'm sure Dell would probably give a much shorter warranty period.

My plan at the moment is to get Vista pre-installed/bundled with a laptop whenever I replace my current one, a hand-me-down with a busted LightScribe DVD+/-RW is. :?

(Rationale: $135 to replace it is apparently not worth it if I can get a better laptop altogether when Vista comes out; by better I mean 1+ GB RAM, 80+ GB/5400+ rpm HDD, and a total weight of less than 6 lbs.)
