Recommendations: DVD writer & soundcard
So any recommendations on what brands/models are worthwhile or more importantly - should be avoided like some kind of terminal contagion?

While I have otherwise found NEC good and to be recommended, my ND3520 recently started having problems with media which, when tested in similarly aged units, worked fine. A firmware flashing fixed it, however the fact that it was needed while similarly aged drives didn't need it is concerning.
It is possible that this was some issue with my exact model since its firmware went from 1.04 (retail installed) all the way to 3.07! Other models on the firmware page mostly seem to have firmwares in the low 1.xx, even some older ones going by the numbering.
