New computer - CPU fan woes

Post by Acidburns »

I am building an intel conroe system. The first motherboard we bought (an asustek) failed to power on. After returning we bought a gigabyte motherboard.

When the system powers on, the cpu fan twitches, but is otherwise still. I have tried two fans, one that came with the cpu and an Artic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro. The rest of the components and fans behave normally. I of course turn the system off imediently.

Anyone got any ideas why this might be? Do I have another dead board?

Okay, this is going to be a really dumb question but it was responsible for a fuckup on my PC.

When installing the motherboard, did you install it on risers or straight onto the case?

Answer honestly.

By risers, you mean the little male/female screws that keep the motherboard off the case? Yeah, I used them.

You try plugging the fans into a different connector? Are you sure they actually work?

I only tried plugging them into the CPU fan socket. I could try the fans on a different motherboard i guess, but I thought it unlikely that both, brand new fans would fail in the same way.
