Would you vote for an Athiest President?
I would.
But there have been polls in USA that people would vote for a gay man before an athiest. This just proves that America is extremely biased against Athiests. And that we are the most under represented minority in America.
Mr. B for President
(no chance in hell I would be elected)

If he was a goose-steping Neo-Nazi Athethist I sure as heck would not. Also if he at any point in his entire life agreed with Rush then I also would not

Consider that we've never had an atheist president.
The current President alienates allies, aggravates potential enemies, wages an eternal war and disregards civil liberties, has engaged in insider trading, and got where he is through a most questionable vote-counting process. Chalk one up for the GOP.
The last President, while not exactly a warhawk, lied, purjored, engaged in adultery, and, like Bush, has conducted shady business in the past. Etc. Whee ha.
What was the difference between parties again?

My only criteria is that he/she is honest... so I guess that means I'll never vote again.

I would have no problems voting for an athiest presidential candidate. However, I just don;t think that it will happen anytime soon. A vast majority of Americans at least pay lip service to religion and spirituality and they may be offended by a president that does not reflect these views. After all , as some bible belter I'm sure will point out, the President swears to god during his inaugeration that he will do his best to fulfill the duties of teh presidency...he just swore to an entity that he does nto think exists...so I think we'll have a black president before an athiest.

A certain 16th president, who is widely considered our greatest ever, was an athiest.
As to the topic of this thread, I would always vote for someone, thiest or athiest, who was tolerant, inclusive, and whole heartly supported the First Admendment.

Yes
I would indeed vote for an atheist president, provided his views were agreeable. However, for time spans, I think that the movie industry will stop using religion before an atheist candidate gets nominated.

If a candidate was atheist, that certainly would not stop me from voting for him/her. However, the chances of such a candidate having a chance of winning seem quite small, and I'd like my vote to count for something, we don’t want another Florida..

I don't give a rat's ass about the president's religion. Unfortunately, being a libertarian, most of the major party candidates who are even remotely appealing to me are Republicans, and a Republican knows he's got to be seen publically tonguing Jerry Falwell's asshole or the Bible beaters down south will sit out the election (or vote Buchannen), throwing the election to the Democrats. Then the Republican goes and institutes protectionist trade policies and jams more Federal paperwork down local school districts' throats, and the libertarian (me) wonders why he didn't vote for Harry Browne. Come to think of it, he did.

As long as it shares my views and doesn't seem like an asshole, sure.

A few (most?) of the founding fathers were deist, I believe. Meaning they believe _A_ god exists, but not the christian one, and that he made the universe then said "ok, you have fun now". or sommat like that.
And wasnt Lincoln atheist? he was 16th, no?
I wanna see a black lesbian wheelchairbound Wiccan for president, just to cover all bases.

Sì! Abbiamo un' anima! Ma è fatta di tanti piccoli robot.
Lincoln was a closet Athiest.
And lets say this Athiest for Prez is socially liberal and fiscally conservative.

Jesse Ventura, just the man you're looking for. As to if he's an athiest, I don't know, but he sure doesn't think highly of organized religion.Mr. B wrote:And lets say this Athiest for Prez is socially liberal and fiscally conservative.
