I was cruisin' around thanks to the return of my internet freedom and was dicking around with some abandonware sites when I came across this title, and having spent the majority of my time disconnected hammering away at the original X-COM, naturally decided to download, install, and screw around with it a bit.
I've been having at it for a few hours, and asides from a few bugs and nuances, it seems fairly solid. A lot of the old and lovable characteristics of X-Com have been carried over and spruced up, and a couple of new new additions have proved rather interesting, like the ability to have more than one dude moving at a time, half-raised obstructions you can duck behind for protection, starting armor so you at least have the illusion of protection (one of the biggest things that annoyed me from X-COM) and so on - it's even got a multiplayer aspect which sounds like that version of X-COM that was recently reworked for such a thing.
As I mentioned before, though, it's got its fair share of bugs and problems of its own - at the moment, the finances and sponsor attitudes with the single-player aspect seem borked, bits and pieces of potentially-useful text are still out, and there doesn't seem to be a system for simply turning your guys around, meaning you have to carefully manipulate their steps (although I could be wrong, but I haven't been able to find a manual or something along that lines). Still, it's looking rather neat, and I can only imagine what chaos there might be with the multiplayer, which looks like it might be able to support six or so individual teams at once.
Anyone else poked around with this at all, maybe something you can share for those who might be interested?

Perusing the board seems to indicate they still haven't gotten interceptions down, so you can only go for 'em when they're on the ground. Not to mention that the game doesn't track your win/loss count, which might be why the funding nations are getting pissed off left and right. Someone apparently came up with a fix for the funding and relationships, though, so it might be in the next release.Nephtys wrote:Is that game finished yet? Last I checked they had some of the tactical down alright, but still didn't have a strategic game balanced or finished.
