I hate to sound like "that guy," but if they're going to literally change everything about Shaundi's character other than her gender, why not just make a new character?

Yeah, I could really only tell it was meant to be Shaundi thanks to the top. Everything else about her has changed, including her demeanor and her voice.
Nice to see Gat hasn't changed
at all, though. If anything he might be more badass than before. The rest of that video just left me shaking my head in disbelief and anticipation, because while it looks stupid, it also looks fun as hell.

This
If they are willing to totally show the first mission I can't wait for the bat shit crazy hijinks in the later missions.
As well I don't know why they just don't introduce a new character if they are totally going to re-do Shaundi's the way they are. Plus the part about calling her GF sounds to me like she's on the chopping block of people getting murdered this game so I can look forward if she is to who replaces her. I'm guessing the twins which would be par for the course of Saints Row if you traded up from Shaundi to twins.

You're right, the first level has always been a solid index of the quality of the whole game.
All I can say is I hope it was on easy. Let's hope for Volition's sake zero-challenge stupid shit sells.

Name a game where the first level was not a solid index of the quality of the game
IE name me a game where the first level or first ten minutes was awesome but the rest of the game was shit.

Uh, do you not play games? The game I'm playing right now has a serious decline in map/art quality throughout, there's the famous example of Duke Nukem (where the first three demo levels were full of interability and physics never seen again), there's the swag of Bethesda RPGs where the final questline was clearly rushed compared to the super-focused and detailed early areas, if you want to get mean there's Nexus where the game totally changes after the third level, Freespace 2 where the whole last arc is full of scripting bugs, Silent Storm's lategame, and certainly World in Conflict's last levels are slapped together in a hurry.
That's just what I've got installed. Let me put down my enchilada and look at the stack of disks. Hmmm. Doom3's first levels give an entirely deceptive idea of what the game will be like, Red Faction near-totally abandons a core mechanic after the halfway point, System Shock 2 was obviously never finished and the last floor and the Rickenbacker are broken, etc.
This has changed somewhat (at least for quest-based games) as content is better managed during development, but it's still around. It's easy to understand, because the early levels MUST be good to pull in players (and show off in trailers and demos) but the rest of the missions just have to be content to pad out the playtime. Saints 2 was a pretty good, even experience throughout, but this is Volition who have fucked up all their sequels for years.
PS your edit = lol strawman, you didn't even add a goddamn full stop.

KOTOR 2 comes to mind as well.

And how. Frankly, having everyone decide to go off to fight the end boss and then the game ending would've been a better ending. Also, only the first level was an attempt at survival horror. Sure, your mileage may vary, but in that regard I drive a hummer. The sort that comes with tire tread that reads "fuck dinosaurs".

Some aspects of Peragus makes it look like they were shooting for it. You wake up in an abandoned mining facility with no recollection of how you got there. You have no equipment, and find the entire place is filled with dead bodies and hostile robots, followed by entering a derelict ship full of dead bodies and invisible assassins, and you have to piece together what happened based on the journals of several of the dead bodies.
Of course, if they were trying to go for it, it's all undermined by the fact that you are a fucking Jedi. And you can just skip trying to find out what happened if you don't care.

Don't forget that it was very well lit. A jedi in well lit areas is not condusive to horror. Neither are those pathetic sith assassins and droids. Those should've been nasty but very rare. But yes, it's definitely an attempt at survival horror. The first thing you find out after you wake up is that nearly everybody in the facility got killed just to get to you. That means you're running around with the killer on the loose. It's definitely interesting, and if the gameplay half was up to it, it could've been very interesting.

I remember that Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood didn't introduce the "Call Assassins" mechanic until halfway through the game's story, just the execution/kill streak mechanic (in the first Sequence), so you had people figuring out the ludicrous potential of the Assassin recruits on their own.
As for "zero-challenge stupid shit"... wasn't that the point of Saint's Row as far as "the casual gamer looking for a GTA alternate" is concerned? Then again, maybe "infinite magazines" is limited to this one portion (we may hope?).
I actually like the unarmed combat mechanic I see (it reminds me of Tekken-style "right for right, left for left"), although I find it a negative that the "post-get back INTO the plane" sequence is a repeat of the preceding sequence, with a different excuse for being separated from Shaundi again.

SR2 wasn't 'zero challenge'. It was appealing vs GTA4 because it wasn't amazingly boring, didn't take itself hugely seriously, and didn't have a giant narrative break between player conduct and character portrayl. SR3 looks like an improvement, but I haven't seen anything about the game that isn't 'omg so funny guys, we're funny!' and 'whoa takedown hardcore whoa!'. Anyone who saw the Crackdown 2 marketing understands why this is not necessarily a good thing, especially with Volition's track record (ie 2 good games in 15 years).

Anyway, on topic, seeing as how it's a gameplay demo, they probably had cheats like all weapons, infinite ammo, and invincibility turned on. May still be an easy game, but the cheats would make it look trivial.

Technically it's infinite magazines/reloads, but good point, although he was only using two weapons from what I saw.
Here's hoping that the cheat requirements (to enable them) make sense, though, unlike ACB's infamous "full sync" requirements. In that, you had to clear every story memory in a Sequence in a certain way per memory to unlock a corresponding cheat, but the cheats only worked during memory replays and would prevent auto-saving (there's no manual save option).

SR2 just had infinite ammo unlocks ingame, and a code-entry system for cheats.

That's one thing I was particularly fond of. The entire point of sandbox games is freedom, so give the freedom to mess with the game itself. I wouldn't have minded making them changeable without pausing your partner's game though.
