Boundwoman Aleksandra turned a hard stare towards the Arcane ambassador.
"Ambassador. I find it hard to believe that such boorish behavior is acceptable at a congregation such as this. We have all indulged in the ritual of sharing- are we not at peace for the time? Cease your childish contest- you are like two young men trying to bed a woman, pushing each other to greater feats of peacock foolishness."

"You seem most sure of having achieved superiority, Ambassador, but it has been my experience that pride, especially pride rooted in an opressive, freedomless society such as your own, often comes before terrible disappointment. Consider, perhaps, that for all your claimed fifteen thousand years of existence, your vessels are still no more than a match for those of the vessels used by, say, the Krytos, who have only been around for a bare century or so."

The Monacoran ambassador looked at the squabbles, gave a humourless chuckle, and settled back into his book, with a pained and bored expression on his face.

"I will give you the childishness. You see my humsn friend, when one is as old as myself you must find ways to amuse.. lest one becomes bored. As well as thefact that I find it offensive that after I demonstrate good will and feed them, they snub my food and insist that the ability I have been working on perfecting for the last four hundred years is nothing more than a parlor trick. You can understand my behavior when you look at it from that point of view.

As to our claims of superiority. Lets jsut say we have been willfully outside the politics of this galaxy for some time. We reached our current level thousands of years ago, but have not seen the reason to advance further. In fact, we went from being 7 villages clustered around a river, to conquering worlds in less than 300 years. How long has it taken terran civilization to be able to claim that?

We have been observers, we have also been manipulating world events for some time. A few earth legends come to mind. King Arthur... Merlin... Both were operatives from our world of Krynn. I could go into a more exhaustive list...

As to oppressive and freedomless. Does the word Libertarian mean anything to you? nintey percent of our adult population can vote, and they maintain near-absolute personal and economic freedom. perhaps you ned to get your definitiosn straight."

The Hajr ambassador replied calmly-

"IT seems strange to me, then, that your ruling body consists entirely of adepts in your arts. Very strange, in fact. A have heard the system described as... Magocratic?"

The ambassador picked up his book, tucked it under his arm, and gave a baneful stare at the Arcane ambassador.

"Arthur was a prince in britain during Roman times, Merlin his advisor. He fought battles around a old wall there, there was no magic too that. As f or freedom, our entire adult population can vote, everyone has absolute economic freedom unless they voluntarilly give it up,

I question wether you know our history, because if you did you'd realise this is the same bullshit that lead to the Genocide war, do you what that was? That was over fifty years of slaughter, terror, pain, and death so terrible that only the KSE was able to come out of it alive, and recover. And you know what made it so terrible? It was completley avoidable, and it was started with the same floater free peace bullshit, Asgardian land rights crap, and two massive alliances fighting untill they could fight no more. Prehaps you should of learnt a lesson from that and not try to, as some would say, raise a tempest in a teapot. Remember what Cicero said, Inhumanitas Omni Aetate Molesta est, because we strive not to forget it again."

"...........interesting."
The admiral leanded back in his chair, and decided that it might be better to wait and see if the diplomats could talk themselves into doing what he wanted before he took action.

"Wise words. However, the fantasy legends of King arthur have more truth behind them than you may think.

I am well aware of how the Genocide war began. However when you force yourelf into someone elses territory and claim mining rights, complete with military escort, I think even the most peace loving of us would object. And if it can be done to one empire, it can be done to all of us. We do not desire war, but agression cannot be met with appeasement. World War Two on your homeworld proved that.

Boundwoman Aleksandra turned towards the Monacoran ambassador.

"Well spoken indeed, sir. Your evaluation of the situation is most accurate. I hope the Arcane ambassador sees things the same way..."

"Heh, we are not the Nazi's Ambassidor. And the asteroid belt of one small system is hardly Checkoslovakia. We only ask for a small stip of terriorty that is rightfully ours."

"Hitler did say the same thing. Prove you have a claim to the area. Because you scouted it? We scouted your homeworld before you crashed there. Does that mean we can claim it?"

"If you had set up operations there, yes, it would have been rightfully yours. Likewise our mining fleet has begun operations before any other bases were set up in that area."

"Freemen, please! This is a diplomatic conference, is it not? The first meeting for reformed powers since the Genocide wars? There is not "international law," friends. In fact, there was not, until recently, even an international community. This would be the proper time for negotiation. For give-and-take. For barter, as one Swarm makes with another when they fall upon the same asteroid feild."

"I agree with you ambassador, but when the ambassador of a major power enters a diplomatic conference and all but announces the annexation of an asteroid field that is in the KSEs territory... I am sorry but that is simply not acceptable"

The Krytosian ambassador turned to the Monacarn representative.

"Pain, death, and slaughter indeed. If you had not sold the allied battle plans to the New Bejing Alliance, Krytos would still be a lush world capable of supporting life."

A hard eye was turned towards the Krytos ambassador.

"The sins of the father have no bearing on the child. If you are at all interested in peace, you will embrace that ideal, sir."

"I concur with the Ouster ambassador. We commited genocide agaisnt the vampires several millenia ago, but we are on friendly terms now. Please, do not punish the child for the crimes of the great great great grandfather"

Duke Peipus stood, "I will leave now, it seems that remarkably little was resolved. I will only advise those powers that are now arguing over territory that such disputes are best solved peacefully. If violence is your first resort, you will often find yourselves faced with coalitions of concerned nations. If anyone wishes to further their diplomatic discussions with our kingdom, the coordinates of our capital of Temesvar are known."

He then left the conference, returning to his black-hulled ship and heading back to the capital.

"Any nation that wishes to make diplomatic ties can set up an embassy on Carulan"

The Krytosian Ambassador turned to the Jardanian representative

"You claim that we have no right to the system's asteroid belt unless we have outposts in the system. Are the terraforming outposts crewed by several hundred Krytosian workers sufficient to make you recognize our control of the system?"

"Well, not that this war would be our problem. If they absolutely want to kill themselves over some asteroids, they're free to do so. It's just childish behaviour. If the parties reacted in a grown-up fashion..."

"And if you and the floaters hadn't demanded more and more of our soldiers Monacora would have gone into the war. But then the war would have been ten times worse, and Earth would have been ripped to pieces, and prehaps the armies of the accord would have brought such pain on the NBA that the war would have had a hundred times more casulties. Or prehaps the war would have ended quickly with quick death brought to the NBA, or prehaps the NBA would have destroyed Monacora instantly without us being able to get in the war. The legions of what-ifs do not change what happened, or the fact that the war itself was horrible, and avoidable."

"We do not recognize the sale of systems wholesale. Your colinies grant you control over the planets, NOT the asteroids."
