The "It had to be as cool as, if not cooler than the Falcon" line cracked me up. It reminded me of some universe where the winner of space battles would be determined by which side had cooler-looking ships.
"Oh, shit! he put a superflous pair of fins on the back of his ship! I'm finished for good!"

No, they aren't. It's only referred to as a VT49 Decimator. Calling it a TIE is an individual mistake.

"TIE" was in quotes for the VT49 because while IGN.com called it a "TIE", it didn't seem to fit the nomenclature. I was just using their words cautiously.
The problem isn't the name, the problem is them unnecessarily inventing "new" ships when there are ALREADY ships that do the exact same thing in the existing continuity. This has just taken things to a ludicrous level. I thought the TIE Crawler was bad...

I'm in the Beta (so I can't say much), but from what I've seen so far this game will beat everyone's expectations. Now those expectations are very low....but this game is pretty damn fun in the *beta*. We'll just have to see how it plays when it comes out

TIE hunters pissed me off too(RE3), there is plenty of TIE designs already out there, why must you make poorly thought out ones?(TIE Hunter was basicly a weak ass X-Wing with a little better turning and ion cannons, bah)

Although the original design was generated a number of years earlier, the prototype vessels built at that time were all lost in the hangar where they were being stored during an unfortunate prison escape incident. A sole ship survived the catastrophe and the design has since attained some notoriety owing to the escapades of its pilot.
There have been other Firesprays documented. Too bad, so sad.
Rather than building to contract, KSE had generated the Firespray design as a project to shop around and had fronted all the cash for the prototypes, confident that once people had seen their performance purchase orders would come rolling in. Instead, the loss of the prototypes put the company in financial dire straights with nothing concrete to show for the Firespray project, and no way to generate interest in the product through demonstrations. Having already drained accounts originally stocked by a huge initial financial outlay, KSE mothballed the project and everything that had been built so far, including reams of technical data and all of the specialized tools used to build the prototype vessels.

Yeah, well, I've been hearing that Lucasarts is yanking control of Galaxies away from Sony and are going to manage it in-house, or something. Apparently, Sony's been deliberately running it into the ground to make less competition for Everquest II.
That's the rumor, anyway. Anybody got confirmation?

Yup- it's well known the EU in general has fuck-all imagination. Just look at the proliferation of stupid looking -Wing fighters.

Welcome to the EU, where the loss of 3-4 capital ships can set your campaign schedule back by years.

I had a friggin' nightmare last night. There was this strange spaceship flying around the sky and it lands on the street adjacent to mine.
The spaceship of my nightmare looks exactly like the TIE Aggressor.
Meh, either way I'm getting the space expansion. Probably go Freelance.

What a piece of junk!
I can't believe these guys. "Cooler than the Falcon?" Reminds me of when one of the B&B twins said that Shinzon would rival Kahn.

I hate this brainbug about standard TIE fighters being crappy. It's a pure EU invention (if one must rationalize it with SoD, it would be New Republic propaganda) and no one who watched the Battle of Yavin would come away with that impression if it wasn't so carefully fostered by fanboys. If you made the Battle of Yavin the way these idiots would have it, the TIE fighters would have outnumbered the Rebel fighters by about 50 to 1, and it would have taken at least a half-dozen hits for a TIE figher to take down an X-wing.

I'm glad someone came out and said it. The X-Wings were getting popped themselves. The shields just afforded an extra hit or two.

If that. Some of them seemed to take on hit and die. The Y-wings got massively p0wned, too.

Again, it probably came from the RPG, which was really a nice pile of Rebel wank.
These games need to focus on giving the Rebels an advantage in subterfuge and guerilla warfare, not a one-on-one numerical force. Rebs should have infiltration... maybe pose as an Imperial gaining access to the academy or something.

Half-dozen? You've obviously not played the various incarnations of the BoY. 6 is way-low. 10 maybe if we're talking TL hits. 50 to one sounds about right for the standard TIEs, but you're forgetting the TIE/Adv squads. Of course, then there's the trench run, with the dozens of gun towers and random structures you have to maneuver around. At a constant 100 m/s, of course.
