Battletoads. Those damn speeder maps take about 50 tries, because they're nothing but memorization.

INSANITY.
Nope. The AI is no match for a average human player. Lvl 5 AI
only shoots well. It still sucks in the tactical area like most other
AIs.

Back to the Future for the NES was fucking impossible. The fact that the game sucked didn't help.

Fester's Quest was also disgustingly hard. I think I beat the third boss once.

Blaster Master was tough. I can't remember ever beating that fucking 5th boss (the crab).

Bubble Bobble wasn't too tough--my sister and I beat it regularly, but if you didn't do those last few levels in order...sheesh.

Some of the storyline bosses in FFX are the toughest I've ever faced in the FF series (Yunalesca...geez). The side bosses in the arena...the mere fact that there are bosses with 10 million HP and you've got to work to be able to hit for more than 10k a round...

The two original X-Com games are pretty hair-pulling.

Syndicate Wars' final mission (on the Syndicate side; I just remembered I never did play Zelot) is a pain in the ass.

I forgot one:

Certian battlefields in Final Fantasy Tactics. In particular Deep Dungeon #7: Voyage -- There's a variation of this battle where the enemies are all Dragons, Hydras, and Behemoths, usually the strongest kind. Also Barius Hill. If you have to fight a large numbers of Red or Black Cocobos, reset. You have no way of winning. A lvl 99. Red Chocobo can kill you in one hit.

The hardest game I ever played was Commandos. Not only does this game take a few months to beat, it also requires perfect time and alot of luck.

On the last mission, I just froze, wondering how the hell am I going to pull this one off.

A close second is X-Com: UFO Defense. The Chrysalids are eviiiiiill!

Vortex - I think it's the only full 3d game on that came out for the SNES, starfox doesn't count!

Turok2 - i had to use a cheat code to get to the end and trun on god mode still couldn't beat him. Almost every second his health fully recharge!

The Marine mission in Alien vs. Predator 2 set on hard, after you crapped your pants and even if you manage to gather enough will to keep playing, is still hard has hell.

There is an end but the last mission is too annoying for words. It's one of those hey here's 6 levers and if you get them in the right order a door on the other side of the map will open. This was Daggerfall dungeon map, with no indication if you'd gotten it right till you got to the door.

Not worth it. I gave up at that point.

Metroid. AGH! The rooms! They all look the same!!!

Also, the Advance Wars for the GBA. It's easy enough to learn, but to master, ugh. Especially the advance campaign. I couldn't get past Kanbei, even with Max!

The hardest adventure game I ever played was "The Dig". There were a couple of puzzles that had me stumped for weeks at a time. Especially that damn turtule skeleton puzzle... that took me over a month... and god damnit, I wish I had taken a screenshot.

Alot of Metroid's Primes bosses are incredibly hard.
And alot of the regular enemies are difficult because it can take anywhere between 4-20 hits to kill one. Try facing just 3 cloaked space pirates at once. They get up close, and WHAM!
You lose health fast as hell, (even with 500 :? )

The real nastiness of Metroid Prime is that the 3D perspective can screw you over vs the 2D.

That and the bosses take some obnoxious advantage of this.

Orbiter Space Simulation.

Very Hard, and available for free... less of a game, more of a simulation of orbital physics but some very nice graphics lots of addons available for real live spacecraft such as Saturn I, Saturn V, ISS, etc...

Take a look at the website if interested.

Damn, Spiderman-the movie is kicking my ass! I can't go toe to toe with the Goblin. I get creamed every time. I resorted to hanging on the ceiling throwing web balls at him.

And I STILL can't complete the swing platforms in under 4 minutes!

I'm not that far, but I've already almost bought it fighting a boss. I was down to 2 health (that's 2 total, as in one more hit and I was dead) fighting the toxic swamp monster. I barely, BARELY managed to defeat it and get the Varia suit.

Gundam: Federation vs Zeon has a few tough levels. Fighting the Elmeth is extremely frustrating because you have to dodge its beam attacks constantly. And if you go into the Battle of Solomon armed with a beam weapon, you have basically lost the stage. Oh yes, and fighing either Char or Amuro pretty much guarantees that you will die painfully.

Gundam: Journey to Jaburo. I spent weeks trying to beat Char on the third level. Fuck, he's tough.

Gundam: Zeonic Front. This game has the ability to thouroghly piss me off. It requires delicate planning for missions, an ability to keep your plan together, and mad piloting skills, especially on the level where you fight White Base. Oh yes, and your wingmen have the survival rate of polar bears in Arizona.

Resident Evil: This is the only game that actually had me jump up and scream "YOU MOTHERFUCKER!" at the top of my lungs. I played my way through the whole damn game, and then spent time after time being skewered by the Tyrant.

Eh, not really....Keevan and I banded together and to put it bluntly, owned impossible difficulty level...not that hard really, just have one psycho on one aspect and the other on the other...spreading and deciding who takes what gun helps too...

Even without the second player....'twas relativly easy to storm through on the hardest difficulty....nothing need be said when you got access to the assault rifle.....

I'm assuming this isn't hard mode. The bosses that really pissed me off were that one, Omega Pirate, and Meta-Ridley. Well, not so much Meta-Ridley, since he's my fave Nintendo villain. Damn Omega Pirate, with his cloaking and summoning elemental pirates. Shadow Pirates I can deal with, but ELEMENTAL?! And Diffusion Missile doesn't work on them.

Tycho, just use Ice Beam on the shadow pirates. You can freeze two of them at once that way, and then one missile each will finish them off. Actually, what's fun is freezing them, and then admiring the Space Pirate ice sculpture in combat visor. Or use partially charged Wave shots. They home in on targets, and will stun them for a few seconds.

Getting the bloody thing is insane though(for vs mode)...beating that thing takes a long time.

For Char or Amuro...I've learned(and any of the named characters fall into this) while their Endurance and damage levels are much higher they are the same reaction time of anything else(the kill the stolen Gundam...is nasty...especially on Veteran or whatever they call it mode).

I've killed Amuro once(on the M'quve and Char gang up scenario...took around 120 shots from my Dom)

Overally it's more annoying because they need one, you need to outlast them.

2 games off the top of my head that kicked my ass frequently:

1. Radiant Silvergun (Saturn)
2. Super Contra III (SNES)

Damn, Radiant Silvergun was tough....pretty, but tough. :?

The original Aliens Vs. Predator is worse. It's one of the few FPS games I know where not only do enemies respawn (at ANY level of difficulty,) but they do it randomly. There's no such thing as clearing areas of opponents so you're safe. Add to that the fact that the opponents are designed to be faster, stronger, and tougher than you regardless of which species you're playing, and the creepy lighting, and it's easily the toughest FPS game i've ever played. On high difficulty it'll eat you alive.

My worst problem playing X-com wasn't with the Chrysallids: I dealt with them by using teams of 7 so I could mass enough heavy plasma shots to kill one regardless of how many people had to shoot it in one round. No, it was the Ethereals that gave me fits: one of the very first technologies I'd always research was the hyper-wave, just so I'd know which crash sites had ethereals at them so I could take appropriate precautions. The best solution I could come up with to deal with all the mind-controlling that went on was to arm most of the team with stun bomb launchers, so that I wouldn't have the "guy with blaster bomb launcher kills the whole platoon" incident.

Original AvP, still one of the scariest and hardest games.

On "directors cut" it was just fukcing mad.

Also, Clive Barkers Undying was great at scaring the shit out of me as well as providing a fairly hefty challenge.
