"Odd that you should say that. Our troops' training is expensive; humanitarian concerns aside, simply throwing their lives away is a waste of all that training,"
"There are certan things i'm not allowed to say, but we have drasticaly reduced our training costs by building low-cost training centers. Making all the equipment resuable."
He thinks.
"Also, I was refering to troops that have been maimed to the point where they won't serve again, not troops that can be saved and reintegrated into the service."

The Psilons had been silent so far, and had remained unnoticed, despite being some of the few non-humans here. They all watched the proceedings and recorded all the details. He waited in till some of the "pleasantries" were exchanged then introduced himself.

"I am Ekter, an ambassador for the Psilon Imperium"

"Our species is new to the area and is in need of maps and history of this area of space, we are willing to pay in valuable metal, or perhaps technology."

"We also wish to begin trade with empires in this area of space, to do this efficiently we would like to set up star gates in systems, for easy transportation"

"We would be happy to trade for raw materials, and allready have an efficent gate assembly and distrubuion system to speed that process up."

And the fact that that would let us spy on you and know every detail of your gate system is a nice side benifit.

"Welcome, Ambassador Ekter! On behalf of the Nashtar Republic, I welcome you and your people. We would be interested in trade, though star gates directly to our inner systems could be problematic to my superiors. Perhaps we can arrange for gates to an outer colony or uninhabited system for a trading post and let our own shipping take in the goods?" Shelton steepled his fingers and leaned on the table, awaiting a response.

"You're an amusingly self-important creature," Duke Peipus said with a cold smile.

"Excuse me?"

Peipus looked back to Malastaral, "I assume you're a fairly high level mage? Don't you find his childish posturing annoying? Their bodies and their consciousnesses exist in only the prime material plane, as weak flesh-bags or as electrical discharges--and they mumble platitudes about how advanced and free they are!

"Child," he continued, "there is more to me than you can percieve, hidden in another plane. And more to these other people as well. You left your soul behind when you copied your brain away. But enough of philosophy."

The Duke winked slightly at the Arcane Empire's envoy. The mage knew exactly what the Vampire referred to. The great and ancient Vampires were much greater in extent than their basic physical form showed. Much of their mass and power were hidden on other planes...

ooc:
my highest-end vampires are somewhat similar to those in Hellsing... they keep the largest portion of their bodies hidden...

"It would be acceptable to set up trading posts for the benefit for all. what is a good system for you?"

"For trade we have liberal amounts of Iron, processed hydrogen, and technology. We would also be willing to set up solar power stations for your use, though we would man them our selves and take precautions to prevent them being copied. The station they work with is relatively small, but an extremely light sail can be unfurled spanning thousands of square miles in space. It provides cheap energy which we can beam to you with microwaves."

"And if the Jardanians have their own gate technology, we would be more then willing to use it, instead of ours"

"We have need of Processed Hydrogen, as for the gate system, we always keep a number of gates on standby for millitary purposes. But i'm sure we could arrange for a few to be 'ported to your home system and activated right away."

Like the Republic of Nashtar (Rogue9) we are leery of putting the ability to instantly arrive at our homeworld in the hands of unknowns. Perhaps a trading post can be created for all....

"Our gate technology dosn't work that way, we could arrive in your home system just as fast without one. All the gate will do is let YOU dial out."

I doubt that, we are very far away and I doubt you would have anything approaching accurate coordinates...

"Actually, our established trading colony is Verling Station. We have the trading post outside our core worlds because we are located in a dense star cluster, making navigation difficult and time consuming at faster than light speeds. The coordinates are here." Shelton slid a small datapad across the table after inserting a disk and punching up a file. "We prefer it if traders inform us of their arrival in advance so the traders can prepare the docks and payment can be ready. If you show up unannounced you may have to wait for other ships to clear the station."

Ah, that clears things.

Anyhoot, we would just as soon stay private and keep foreign objects out. We would rather set up our own gate at a neutral point where both of our gates can operate. A location in deep space would be preferable.

@Rogue9

Excellent, a gate ship should arrive with in the week, with a small escort while the gate is set up. When they get with in a few light years they will broadcast their arrival.

"Good. Glad to work with you. What sort of technology do you have for trade, and what do you wish in exchange? I will tell you that my government will likely be highly interested in truly efficient solar power. We live in a star cluster. The light's no problem." Shelton winked at that.

We are experiencing several population booms and are in interested prefabricated civilian space stations and land arcologies to handle the pressure. We are also in need of maps and histories of the surrounding space.

In return we would be happy to set up solar power plants, however this would necessitate a larger military presence where ever you wish us to set up the plants, to protect them. We are not currently prepared to offer the technology it self. Due to our scientific bend, we have developed a limited number of excess supercomputers and research laboratories, which we would like to sell or trade to any interested parties. We have some 30 supercomputers, and 10 research labs avaliable as of now. They are of the finest quality. We also have iron and hydrogen in abundance, however we would rather sell those for money and buy from markets numbers of smaller items.

"I am interested if there is a commonly excepted currency that functions as an inter-empire exchange? if there isn't perhaps some of you want to form an economic alliance for that purpose alone?"

The KSE ambassador turned to the Jardanian delegate

"From a diplmatic standpoint, I can prove we set markers in that asteroid field long before you even started scouting that system. From a practical standpoint as of......."
The admiral looks at his watch.
"7 minutes ago the miners would have begun conscrution of the prefab station, mining operations should begin within 2 days."
"I am interested if there is a commonly excepted currency that functions as an inter-empire exchange?
"Excellent idea, but what would this new currency be based on?"

"Excellent idea, but what would this new currency be based on?"
I'm thinking we could base it off an average cost on producing usable energy. ergo, generally it costs x amount to release y amount of energy which corresponds to z amount of Galactica Bucks.
"That can be arranged. Any perticular location?"
The Republic of Nashtar will allow us to set up a general trading post (AIM) at the Verling system which will save us gate construction. We may trade though that gate.

Ambassador Shelton smiled. "Check the datapad I gave you. The star charts for this entire quadrant are in there. Consider it a gesture of goodwill.

"We can do space stations. Civilian applications only makes it easier, though we also have military models if you are interested. What are you willing to trade in, say, supercomputers and use of a solar station for space stations capable of housing 10,000 comfortably?"
