The Republic of Melatonia is a tiny, economically powerful nation, notable for its complete absence of social welfare. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 5 million enjoy frequent elections, which are uniformly corrupted by big-spending corporations buying politicians who best suit their interests.
There is no government in the normal sense the word; however, a small group of community-minded, corrupt, pro-business individuals is mainly concerned with Law & Order, although Commerce and Social Welfare are on the agenda. Income tax is unheard of. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Information Technology, Woodchip Exports, and Furniture Restoration industries.
Crime is a serious problem. Melatonia's national animal is the raven, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the duble.

Just found this
http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/ind ... n=darkstar
with: The Dictatorship of Darkstar is a very large, safe nation, notable for its complete absence of social welfare. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 103 million are kept under strict control by the oppressive government, which measures its success by the nation's GDP and refers to individual citizens as "human resources."
The medium-sized, corrupt, moralistic government juggles the competing demands of Defence, Law & Order, and Commerce. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 11%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Uranium Mining industry, followed by Beef-Based Agriculture and Cheese Exports.
Organ donation is compulsory, TV shows must meet strict ethnicity quotas, Harry Potter books are banned, and the country's famous rainforests are being bulldozed by the mining industry. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Darkstar's national animal is the retarded bunny, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the credit.

Jesus Christ I just figured out how this game was keeping track of who you were logged in as. Suffice to say it wasn't very difficult to figure out and the game is deeply insecure. You see the part where it says pin=blah in the URL? Change blah and you change who you're logged in as
Even I could do better than that!

The Issue
In response to a slow news week, certain highbrow newspapers have stirred up the debate over voluntary vs compulsory voting.
The Debate
"Compulsory voting makes about as much as sense as having the death penalty for attempted suicide," says civil rights activist Beth Spirit. "You can't force people to be free! You can only give them the choice. Besides, if all those derelicts who can't be bothered to get off their ass once every few years voted, who would they elect? I shudder to think."
[Accept]
"It's not contradictory at all," argues political commentator Beth Washington. "The fact is, if not everyone votes, the outcome isn't truly representative. Some groups--like elderly gun nuts--vote more often than others. That's why always we always end up with such terrible politicians."
[Accept]
"This raises an interesting issue," says Max Christmas, your brother. "And that is: why do we need elections, anyway? Seems to me it would be much simpler if you just decided what was right, and did it. Wouldn't that save everyone a lot of time?"
[Accept]
Well I was thinking that I wouldn't make it compulsory but then what brother says is interesting. Then again I want to make a utopian powerhouse. Begs the question, which one do you guys think is the best?

I'd go for the third one. Who needs elections?

and I voted no on the making organ donation compulsory.
Casy: A perfect nation with the Dictator that makes all the decisions

. Seriously, would it be as detrimental in this game as it is in real life?

We should start targeting unprotected UN delegates and see if we can't get some concessions.

I don't think that Darth Wong would want to spend the extra time he has to be a delegate. If Darth Wong doesn't want to be UN delegate who else would be willing to take the job?
